“Empowering,a magnificent inspiration!”

The Phoenix & Rising Dove
Self-doubt and defeat are successfully conquered in Author Jasmine Farrell’s awe-inspiring
compilation of transcending poetry entitled; Phoenixes Groomed as Genesis Doves. She opens
up strong, with her poem entitled, 'I've Always Wanted to Be a Poet'; and in elegant poetic
language, her words fancy up an extraordinary image of a poet that is, in her words, 'a deity of
exhortation and dope parallels', a 'creator of canvasses', and a ‘giver of hope’. Rest assured,
her poetic spirit does humbly fulfill the description conjured up in this poem, indeed!
Her subtle artistic aptitude is agreeably mellow, presented with the perfect hint of confidence,
just enough to grasp the sublime 'down-to-earth' demeanor mirrored in all of her work. A prime
example of these characteristics is vividly displayed in her evocative poem entitled, 'Pretentious
Poets'. In this poem, even in admitting some confliction she has noticed and experienced
amongst her poetic peers, not once does her flowing verses ever lose sight of a classy,
elaborate, and intelligent writing elegance! Truly, sensational!
There are also many other poised, self-assured poems that exemplify the Author’s
self-sufficiency and liberation, with our favorite being, 'Don't Give Up'. It is an Acrostic type
poem that spells out the positive phrase, ‘don't give up’, in which we could probably all agree,
that in remembering this simple quote, we can do our best to remain consistent, especially in
pursuing one’s goals. Alphabet ‘P’, ends with a resilient;
“Press on with your goals tattooed underneath your eyelids. You got this.”
And her words surely serve as evidence that she practices what she preaches; yet and still is
not nearly a portion of the lifelong advice contributed in this wise production.
Phoenixes Groomed as Genesis Doves, is loaded with what we would like to call, 'power
phrases'; ebullient declarations that revitalize the inhibited, animate the spiritless, and provide a
generous sense of hope. In addition to this, the picturesque metaphorical comparisons of life
and situations, to the splendor of nature, was more than a delight; in fact, it was like
experiencing a blissful winter on a summer's day; or like seeing and feeling the warm radiance
of the sun amidst the starry magic of the night!
With the title of the book in mind, we found it absolutely brilliant that the well-crafted stanzas and
verses captured perfectly the complete essence of a peaceful dove, and also that of a beautiful
rising Phoenix; with the legendary Phoenix symbolically representing the rebirth of who she
'used to be', and the dove symbolizing the self-ascension reflected as a result. And this refined
revolutionary breakthrough she testifies of, appears to be merely a staircase, ushering her
directly into her destiny.
In closing, we enjoyed every bit of Author Jasmine Farrell's book! Poem after poem, you will find
yourself overwhelmed by the wholesome goodness of positivity, feeling empowered, if not for
yourself, then definitely for the voice behind the resonating messages of emancipation written in
this collection.
The poetry in this book positively reinforces self-confidence, self-esteem, and the value of
believing in yourself. It is a great selection for anyone, but especially for a youthful audience
discovering their purpose and finding their way in the world. By the end of the book, her
infectious vibes of pleasant emotions have settled into your heart, inspiring you to grasp a hold
of life...and step into the place of your destined purpose.
Wonderful work, Author Jasmine Farrell! We hope you continue to be an influential voice for the
future! We rate this book with 5 Stars.
If you’re feeling caught up in the midst of change and transformation in your own life, then Phoenixes Groomed as Genesis Doves is the book for you! This book of poetry is filled with inspirational and relatable poems that shows the personal growth she’s had since her last book “My Quintesence” which you should pick up as a well and see the amazing transition through her experiences.
I was given a copy of this book by the poet's publicist and voluntarily reviewed it.
I really enjoyed Phoenixes Groomed as Genesis Doves. This collection is packed with the type of poetry I enjoy the most. The poems are narrative, lyrical, bold and fierce and I had a great type with them. Farrell’s poetry reminds me a lot of the poems by Penny Arcade in my favourite ever poetry collection, Verses That Hurt Pleasure and Pain from the Poetfone Poets. A hell of a lot of bold ideas and imagery is packed into this collections pages. I devoured Phoenixes Groom as Genesis Doves (great title by the way) in one sitting. I really need to check out the poets other collection, My Quintessence. My favourite pieces included the title poem, Serene’s Coffee Shop, Curiosity Killed the Girl, Old Ladies and Their Love Stories, The Quiet Ones and Secrets. I’d highly recommend this collection.
Phoenixes Groomed as Genesis Doves by Jasmine Farrell is the poet's second collection of poem. Farrell is a freelance writer and blogger from Brooklyn, NY. She has a Bachelors degree in Communications.
I wasn't sure this was my type of poetry when it was first offered. The title drew me in with its combination of two different mythos. Both speak of rebirth after destruction-- one from fire and the other from water. Reading the poems I found the same duality. The early poems in the collection speak of younger days with hopes and worries. The later poems take on more adult and contemporary issues including race and the institutionalized violence associated with it.
From her poems, it seems Farrell had always wanted to be a poet but not always supported in her goal. Like many people she felt a bit intimidated by those who "really know" poetry and poets. Her themes reflect this feeling with poems of winter and cold. Fighting this cold are dreams and a warm beat that took me back to my youth and hearing, for the first time, Rickie Lee Jones' Young Bloods
Shimmy when you feel a catchy tune
I shimmy at sunrise, wiggle flowers whenever rain storms drench the pedals.
There is that youthful attitude that knows things will get better. The youthful, young adult independence and the spirit of an artist bleeds through in “black ink.”
But, it is best to walk solo than with packs who feed off
your radiance, rather than cuddling their own.
Beauty is
your smile when you finally know your worth.
The reader will slowly see the poet slip into the realities of the modern world. Hopes and dreams are not necessarily crushed but they are damaged by the world around. Hope remains but so does the recognition of injustice and hypocrisy in life. Farrell does not lose hope for all the negatives she experiences. She reminds us that there is goodness and art in the world. Hope and reality battle through this collection, but like the phoenix the poet also rises. The dove in Genesis brought back proof of a better future when it returned with an olive branch following the flood. Farrell saves the best and most enlightened poem for last. Her closing stanza in the long and final poem "How I'm Doin'" ties everything together perfectly. It is her olive branch after the flood.
Very intuitive and soulful poetry.
