I would have given 5 stars if the book had been longer...with more information especially on fasting. I am tired of reading studies, different "diets" and body building programs. I am tired of being a little overweight. I am tired of the inertia and not feeding my body healthier foods. This is an easy read, straightforward and simple discussion on basic exercise with some healthy recipes. I am not into food preparation but maybe that is something I need to change in order to have a better diet. I am a spiritually minded person so I can appreciate some of her spiritual suggestions: adding meditation and so forth. The book motivated me to make a grocery list for tomorrow and start walking. Easy does it but do it!

Ekta Singhal has placed before us a very simple and reasonable and accessible way to manage our weight and our general health. She does not offer miracles, just participation. And after a fine introduction of the many types of weight loss diets, programs and surgeries, she quietly moves into her recommended ways of electing good health.

The title of her book includes the term fasting, and she gives us a history from all religions and schools of thought about the use of fasting before (thankfully) expressing what she considers a quick and healthy fast - set aside one or even two days a week to limit food intake to a minimum of only healthy items, spend time meditating, being still, and enjoying your `day at the spa' sensation.

She then focuses on exercise and does not recommend that we must spend a lot of money on equipment or gym memberships or other modes of exercise that can become burdensome in our lifestyle. Instead she supports early morning walking as walking improves the muscle coordination, supports breathing exercises, and provides a time to communicate with nature (no music or audio books, just nature's sounds). The walk is another form of detoxifying, much like the fasts.

Now that she has shown us a very straightforward and sensible lifestyle change to help us look at our body weight in a constructive manner, she then adds a recipe book accompanied by very beautiful color photographs of dishes to prepare for breakfast, lunch and dinner - many choices, all healthy and quite simple to prepare.

At this point Ekta Singhal steps aside and leaves the life changes up to us. This is a very tender, supportive approach to addressing the obesity epidemic, and she makes it so natural and easy. Grady Harp, April 13
Good information, food for thought, healing results. A much needed thing to give the body a fest from all the junk of today's foods.
When I first read the title, I got scared. I thought it would be a new age book about fitness. Being that I'm Christian, I was a bit skeptical. Thankfully, it's a helpful book that describes why fasting is a good way of getting healthy. It touches on how each religion views fasting but doesn't go into the religious aspect of it which I thought was really good. The author mentions some very healthy recipes at the end which I totally agree with Tabbouli, tabouli or tabbouleh (many countries spell it differently) and hummus are delicious and healthy. I'm 1/4 Armenian and my grandma made those dishes for me when I was growing up and they were indeed very healthy and tasty. This book was a lot better than I expected!
